About Me

Originally from Scotland, I moved to NYC in 2012 to pursue a MSc. in Journalism at Columbia University. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of working with award-winning teams at different publications all pursuing (in their own way) excellence in science, culture, and technology journalism.

I have had the privilege of working at both niche publications with small tight-knit teams and at large, mass audience media organizations where diplomacy and interpersonal relationships help build great things. I understand how to build and keep an online and offline audience, and I strive to make connections with readers by centering them in my reporting. My favorite stories are the ones that make you think a little differently about your world and yourself. Right now, I am the deputy news editor at Semafor.

You can find my byline in these places:

Nautilus Magazine, The Daily Beast, The Messenger, JSTOR Daily, DNAInfo, UtilityDive, The Transmitter (formerly Spectrum News), Inverse, Discover Magazine, The New York Observer, and more.

You can see a couple of examples of my work here.

Something Fun

Whenever I need to cheer myself up, I remind myself that scientists once attached a popsicle stick to a chicken’s butt to see if it walked like a dinosaur and it instantly makes me feel better.
